My Ugly Necklace
by Saddam Hussein

I thought I'd submit
This necklace to you
I've hidden all the weapons
There's nothing to do.

But I think it's pretty
Not ugly at all --
Won't it look great with
Some pumps and a shawl?

But never mind that
Let's focus on this,
Ah beading with bullets
The ultimate bliss!

One of A Kind

I don't dress down
When going out on the town,
And I don't like to see
Others adorned like me.

The necklace that I wear
Really makes everyone stare.
Oh those crowds I can stun
With my high fashion!

This necklace is so tacky
Some might say it's wacky
Many colors, shapes, and beads
It is an odd site to see
One might wear it to the circus
Or a rave, or a fair
But mostly I've been told it looks like something to wear to Woodstock
Maybe it's the smiley faces or the buttons
That reminds them they like to rock
All I know is it sure stands out brightly above the rest
In its own wacky-tacky way it's being put to the test

Clasp Assembly: Two mini bright
orange interlocked clips, like clothes pins.

Beauty

Eye made this necklace for my Mom,

Eye thought it was "Da Bomb,"

My Mom said "Wow, did you make a cow?"

Eye said "No, it's a necklace."

"Why, do you have a preference?"

She said "No, Eye understand the reference of the necklace."

It is from the wise saying: "Beauty is in the Eye of the beholder."

Everything You Need

Cold metal pieces,
Rotten banana peel,
Traveling upon the earth,
You can have a tasty meal.

You got everything you need,
On your trip around the world,
With Patty Mayo at your side,
Cause she's the nicest girl.

You got a key to every door,
Or so it just may seem,
While you're out around the world,
Reaching your big dream.

Clasp Assembly: No clasp or knot, just a continuous string. There is, however, a connecting architectural-type feature in the front with the L-shape pin and the Patty Mayonaise keyring.
Dollar Value: $20.00

Adjusted Judges Score: 6 out of 7

The ugliest necklace I've ever seen,
Was betwix and btween,

Sunset orange and olive green,
With rhino's grazing on the scene,

The blue and yellow fight to be seen,
With crystal and gold they crash and careen,

Around a neck, it's obscene!

Clasp Assembly: Strung on string, with a knot tied, instead of a clasp. The knot is hidden under the beads.
Dollar Value: $10.00
"Because I don't ever want another one like it!"

Beach Combers Nightmare

Lookin' for some beach and quiet,
She found it in Caroline.
She wandered down the beach at dawn,
And here is what she found.

Some driftwood lookin' pretty,
A bunch of mollusk shells.
A plastic shark, a bit gritty,
A bit of silver, what the hell?

She was a beader by instinct,
So she knew just what to do
She sat down by the ocean,
With her tools, she started to coo.

Clasp Assembly: A Bead-Button clasp on jute string

ODE TO A MISUNDERSTOOD CREATURE

I loved a lot my ugly cat
Its eyes a frightful green
It's sight caused shivers down my spine
Like feline kerosene

I always missed my favorite cat
For it always ran away
While it was gone I would be forced
To be alone all day

So I made a necklace of my cat
To remember when it was gone
The time without it was not as bad
And didn't seem as long

But when that day came back my cat
Saw the horror I had wrought
It ran awya, quite scared it was
"This time for good," I thought.

Ugly Necklace Poem

This bauble is shiny, rough, dull, and smooth
with a funky rhythm that's in the groove.

This necklace is wacky and not too neat
whether worn to a rally or a disco beat.

And just like the fashions way back then
IT'S UGLY!

Atlantian Merhags

In mass, the women walked into the sea. Speaking as one they recited the following, "We, the wise and old will forever swim to point the people of Atlantis back to land." ... All the women felt a tingling in their legs as they watched scales began to develop, their legs fused together and their feet turned into fins.

Standing by the edge of the sea
Arms reaching up towards the sky
Am I here or there
Where?
Searching for solace
Desiring some peace
But screaming
Awaiting transformation
I wonder
When it will be time
To become Me.

Green Beads and String

My Boss returned from Italy
Green beads and string she brought
She strutted around with faux finery
Surrounding her neck like green moss and froth.

She asked my opinion of it's value and cost
I dare not answer, I was at a loss
I could not say what I really thought.

Her name is Faux Charade

Her teeth protrude
Her thoughts are rude,
She's a crone who crafts
In "fowlest" of mood!

This artist knows

Sticks and stones
May break bones
But ugly Charade is
Clay made for grins and groans!

The Ugly Necklace

Around my neck a lace must go
To hide this line so fragile
This line is all I have to see
It is my soul define.

...Around my neck a lace has gone
Now hiding what I fear most
To never know just who I am
And contribute to the silence.

...The necklace so ugly was not my scar
But instead my lack of faith.

Flowers From Hell

I made an ugly necklace, I know this much is true
I don't think you can argue that it's might gaudy too.

I chose orange to start with, orange isn't in this year
but as I sit and ponder orange never was held dear

Plastic button flowers added a great touch
and here I was so sure they would simply be too much.

Crazy Aunt Laurie

Crazy Aunt Laurie had some beads
E-I-E-I-O
And with these beads she made a necklace
Look how far she'd go
With a green bead here and a black bead there.
Here a bead, there a bead,
Everywhere were beads and beads
Crazy Aunt Laurie made a necklace
E-I-E-I-Euuuuuuuu!

Ugly Truth

"Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty"...
Keats concluded rather smugly.
I can't really buy his creed.
Romantic fantasy won't fill my need.
'Cause in the real world I've noticed there's
Less that's Beauty and more that's ugly.

My fabrication is dark indeed
With buck tail hair on tea dyed skulls,
A bullet casing made of brass,
Some garish stones and faceted beads,
Bits of feathers and baubles of glass.
And, topping it off, this "joy forever"
Highlights a polished jaw, orthondontia and all,
Scrimshawed like a Gravettian wall.

I think, John Keats, YOU would swoon
If confronted with this ugly creation
Knowing your penchant for dainties and mead.
That's your problem: Another thorn of life
On which to fall and bleed.
But Josef Conrad, with a heart of darkness,
Might smile to see a manifestation
Of his "fascination with abomination."

On the jaw bone is written "Anyone can afford to be beautiful."
