Topics below: - CRAFT TIP OF THE DAY: How to Use Head Pins
CRAFT TIP OF THE DAY: How To Use Head Pins: Head pins and eye pins are used to create dangles. To use the pin, first, straighten it out. Next, be sure there is just a hair's width greater than 1/4" of wire showing above the bead. Using a round- nose pliers, bend the desired piece into a round shape. Bring the end of the pin into the hole opening of the bead. A nice touch, which enhances the saleability of your products, as well as make them functionally more secure, is to loop the end of the head pin twice around, instead of once. The standard head pin is 20-gauge thick. This works well for most beads. Many gemstone beads, however, have very thin holes, and may require use of a 22-gauge, or even a 24-gauge, head-pin. 22-gauge works well, but 24-gauge may be on the thin side for some projects.
NEW MERCHANDISE
o Michael Parkes Posters -- there are six new images of this wonderfully magical, somewhat surrealistic artist. There is now a book available, as well.
o Angel Parts -- three styles of filigree wings and one filigree crescent. For faces, you might look at the round 12mm mother of pearl or abalone shell cabochons. Under Findings/Stampings or Cabochons in our BEAD SHOP
o Fancy Sterling and Gold-Filled Clasps -- many additions to our selection of handcrafted, as well as safety clasps, one-, two- and three-strand filigree and dome clasps. Under Findings/Clasps in our BEAD SHOP

STORE NEWS
We made it through one year on the internet! What an adventure! We thank all our customers for their support, and in some cases, patience, while we learn how to conduct business on-line. It's similar, but different, from the real store.
Our goal this year is to expand our selection of beads, jewelry findings, rings, posters, bbq and hot sauces, and how-to crafts books, but to also prune back catalog selections which did not do well last year. Now you can listen to the radio while shopping. In the front menu pages of each catalog section, there is a button to click, if you want to tune in a radio station. Try it. It's fun!
BE DAZZLED BEADS, JEWELRY & COLLECTIBLES is our newest store. Our downtown location has become such as parking hassle, that we decided to open a more suburban location. Eventually, we'd like to leave the downtown altogether. At BE DAZZLED, you'll find that same eclectic collection of stuff along with a wide selection of beads and jewelry findings. It's a homey setting, much like the original Land of Odds many years ago -- and plenty of on-site parking. Come Visit!
We have also begun teaching some beading classes there. To find our more information, add your name to our mailing list, register for a class, or be considered for teaching a class, email us at mailto:oddsian@landofodds.com or call us at 615-292-0610.
Last but not least, you can imagine how frustrated our dog Dottie has been. Until this month, she had not yet been scanned into the catalog, and Rosy our other dog has. Dottie is a very little dog who likes to challenge the horses, who pull the tourist carriages at night, to a fight. So to appease her, you can see her picture at:http://www.landofodds.com/dottie.htm

THE ARTISTS' PLACE http://www.landofodds.com/store/artplace.htm
If you'd like to be a part of the Artists' Place, please read the Request For Submission Rules on the page referenced above. We will also be setting up a Business Card Directory in The Artists' Place. We will scan artists and craftspersons business cards, and put in an active link to their web-site, if they have one. There is no charge for this. All you have to do is send us a business card, request that you be added, and, if you have a web-address, specify that as well. We'll take care of the rest.
