The Artist's Place
Fragility, photographed above, exemplifies my desire to work with concept, making creative decisions based on ideas and referential symbols, not solely making decisions based on aesthetic pleasure.

I began beading in elementary school and passionately persisted through my undergrad degree in Fiber Arts at Colorado State. I create a variety of fiber art, often embellishing with beadwork as well as sculpting intricate jewelry. In beadwork retrospection, I progressed from simple bead stringing to two-dimensional bead weaving and currently work three dimensionally. Fragility, exemplifies my desire to work with concept, making creative decisions based on ideas and referential symbols, not solely making decisions based on aesthetic pleasure. My artwork attends to the vulnerability of our physical and mental states in this modern age. In my work and teaching, I focus on basic elements and principles of design, which are evident in Fragility's incorporated clasp, and rhythm of texture and shape. I place importance on detailed finishing, accomplished by consistent string tension, carefully hiding threads, and attending to the piece as a whole, not emphasizing a front and back.
