Dottie
When James' brother took a job that kept him travelling, he had to find another home for his dog Dottie. James gladly took her. He changed her hairstyle, taught her some new tricks, like how to say "I LOVE YOU", and how to give kisses. Now Dottie is part of the Land of Odds family, and customers come everyday to hold and cuddle her.
Her sister Rosie is very jealous, but the two of them have found some workable stand-off. Dottie is a small dog. Rosie is big. That doesn't keep Dottie from biting Rosie's feet when Rosie gets too much attention. To get Rosie out of the room, Dottie will run barking to the door, like there' s a cat outside. Rosie will get all excited, and bound for the door. When someone opens the door, Rosie will run out, and Dottie will turn around and go back into the room where everyone is.
Last year, a tornado hit our house. While roaming the neighborhood looking at some of the damaged homes, we found a lost dog we called Stormy. We brought Stormy into our home. Dottie was not pleased. She wouldn't get near Stormy. In fact, Dottie tried to run away from home on several occasions. We kept Stormy for three months until we found a good home for her. Stormy was one of the friendliest dogs you'd ever meet. When the folks came to take Stormy, she went over to Dottie and Rosie, licked both in the face, as if to say good-bye, and then turned to walk to her new owners. Rosie was very sad. Dottie was dancing with glee. We were sad to see Stormy go, but couldn't manage taking care of three dogs.

Dottie likes to be the center of attention, and she is. She hates horses. There are horse-drawn carriages on 2nd Avenue in the evenings. When they come by, Dottie goes ballistic. She has no sense that they are many times her size, and probably could squish her.
AND NOW THERE'S....
We recently adopted Lily, a shiatsu/chihuahua mix. Dottie is not very happy. One of the first things she did was dig a secret hole in our yard, just waiting for the opportunity to push Lily into it and bury her....
.... Dottie passed away April 8th, 2008. She was 17 years old.
