Payment for Services

Teachers are paid as independent contractors, either on a per student, or a per course basis.   No payroll taxes are deducted from teacher pay.   Teachers must complete a W9 form. Teacher pay is reported on form 1099 to the IRS, and teachers are responsible for computing and paying taxes on this amount.

Checks are cut and issued twice a month on the 15th and 30th of the month.

Teachers may pick up their checks at Be Dazzled Beads, or have them mailed to them.

For those out-of-town instructors offering specially-scheduled workshops, checks are issued at the conclusion of the workshop.

The rate of payment is separately negotiated with each faculty member, and may also vary due to the experience of the teacher with the subject, the target skill level of the class, the maximum class size level, and/or the amount of supplies, tools, equipment and preparation involved.

As a guide, the CBJA uses the following fee/payment standard:   A fee of $25.00/2-hour session per enrolled student is charged the student, and the teacher gets 75% of the fee.   So, if a $25.00 fee was charged for a 2-hour class, and there were 6 students enrolled, the teacher would receive $112.50 compensation (.75*(6*25.00)).
