PREREQUISITES: WIRE9001:Orientation to Wire and Wire Shaping
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: To teach the student to learn how to manipulate otherwise soft wire so that it can be used as the structural base for a piece of jewelry.
To learn how to use a hammer to texture and strengthen wire
DESCRIPTION of MAJOR PROJECTS/TASKS: - bracelet
DESCRIPTION of SKILLS/TECHNIQUES/CONCEPTS TO BE LEARNED:


- use hammering technique to both texture and increase the hardness of wire as a form or structural component
- use wire as a structural form from which to create a piece of jewelry
- weaving beads using wire

CLASS TIME ESTIMATE: 3 hours

Students will learn how to use wire to create the structural base for a piece of jewelry, in this case, a bracelet, as well as how to weave beads using wire around this structural form.

2 foot - 16 gauge sterling silver or gold-filled wire or copper wire
6 foot - 24 gauge sterling silver or gold-filled wire or copper wire

150-200 assorted beads
Whatever you would like to use, from delicas to gemstones, and any shape in between

(tools are provided for classroom use, thought students may want to purchase their own)
round nose pliers
chain nose pliers
wire cutters or flush cutters
optional:  step pliers
optional:  chasing hammer, anvil and strike plate

(hammer, anvil and strike plate provided)
