A knowledge of sewing and basic embroidery stitches is helpful, but not required. If you do not know, you will be taught these in class.

 

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

The object is that you learn how to use decorative stitches on your machine, and embellish the piece with beads.

Embellishments with beads and finishing taught.
Design suggestions presented in class.

EMBR1001:  Silk Ribbon Embroidery

Learn the basics of silk ribbon embroidery to make a needle case which will display your silk ribbon talents, or embellish a linen guest towel with your initial or create a beautiful motif for the center of a pillow or piece to be framed. You may also use any linen, silk dupioni, moire, or drapery fabric (no hard or close knit cottons) to contruct your project.

If you wish to purchase the linen pieces you may do so from the teacher.

Cocktail napkin for needle case is $2.00.
Linen Guest towel is $4.00.

 

1. Linen or linen/cotton blend guest towel, or piece of fabric that can be a 12" to 20" square. Size depends on how you want to finish, whether framed or a pillow. The fabric may be Silk Dupioni, Linen, Linen/Cotton Blend, Organdy, Textured Silk or linen blends. If you are using a piece of fabric please make sure that you have either serged, fray checked or bound the edges so they won't ravel.

2. One skein of green floss for stems. One skein of floss for centers of flowers and other french knots. (Your choice of pale yellow, pink, peach).

3. One package each of 4mm silk ribbon: Roses color (your choice), pale blue, green for leaves to coordinate with stem floss (can be lighter or darker). One package or organdy or organza ribbon for doing silk ribbon. If you can't find, it will be provided in class. The organdy ribbon may be 7mm and a pink or lavender. We will make one flower using 7mm cream and 7mm light blue ribbon. Again, if you can't find the size then I will provide in class.

4. Embroidery hoop 5-6". You may use round or oval. You will need a package of silk ribbon needles (preferably a package with mulitiple sizes). You will need scissors. In addition, you will need needles for the floss. Those can be embroidery type of hand sewing needles or your choice.
