GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: To explore the properties and uses of translucent polymer clay
DESCRIPTION of MAJOR PROJECTS/TASKS: Create mokume gane with polymer clay and foil
Create several types of translucent canes
Overlay a design with translucent clay
Shape and cover heart-shaped beads or pendants
DESCRIPTION of SKILLS/TECHNIQUES/CONCEPTS TO BE LEARNED: - learn how to combine opaque and translucent clays with foil to simulate mokume gane
- learn how to create layered pieces using translucent canes
- learn how to protect designs/transfers with translucent clay

WRITTEN COURSE DESCRIPTION In this course, students will learn how to take advantage of the properties of translucent clay to create designs with great depth, clarity and shine
At the beginning of this class, the typical student should be able to do/know the following: Students should know the differences between polymer clay brands, as well as how to handle, bake, and finish polymer clay.  Students should also know how to construct basic canes from polymer clay, as well as how to reduce and slice polymer clay canes.
At the end of this class, the typical student should be able to achieve/accomplish/learn the following: Create mokume gane using translucent clays and foils
Create layered pieces with translucent canes
Protect delicate finishes using an overlay of translucent clay
