PREREQUISITES: CLAYPC4301: Getting Started With Polymer Clay
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: To teach the student the basics of polymer clay caning or millefiori.
DESCRIPTION of MAJOR PROJECTS/TASKS: Create a variety of basic canes using only black and white polymer clay
Assemble a B&W bead sampler bracelet
DESCRIPTION of SKILLS/TECHNIQUES/CONCEPTS TO BE LEARNED: - learn what a polymer clay cane is
- learn how to construct a variety of basic canes
- learn how to reduce a cane
- learn how to slice a cane
- learn to make different shaped canes
- learn how to apply cane slices to a bead base
- learn how to drill holes in beads
- learn how to support beads during baking
CLASS TIME ESTIMATE: 4 hours

In this course, students will learn how to construct a variety of simple polymer clay cane designs including a bull's eye, jelly roll, striped, lace & checkerboard cane.  Canes will then be used to create a variety of beads.

At the beginning of this class, the typical student should be able to do/know the following: Students should know the differences between polymer clay brands, as well as how to handle, bake, and finish polymer clay
At the end of this class, the typical student should be able to achieve/accomplish/learn the following: Create a variety of basic cane designs
Create a variety of bead types utilizing canes
