GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

Students will warp a loom for a split-loom piece, weave the center piece, remove selected warp threads and add beads, replace warp threads with correct tension, weave neck piece, use off-loom technique to add beads to center piece pattern, create fringe and weave in warp theads.

DESCRIPTION of SKILLS/TECHNIQUES/CONCEPTS TO BE LEARNED:

- warping a loom for the removal and replacement of selected threads

- determining appropriate length of necklace and adding beads for uniform length

- completing loomed pattern using off-loom weaving technique

- designing fringe to complement woven piece

Three class sessions with a total of 9 hours

Student will have the opportunity to use one of two patterns in Margie Deeb's book "Out on a Loom" to create an heirloom quality split loom necklace.   Please choose one of these two patterns:
"Jonquil Abstract", p. 24
"Ribbon", p. 30
A student may submit another pattern for instructor's approval.

At the beginning of this class, the typical student should be able to do/know the following:

- weave a loomed beaded piece
- add and decrease on a loom
- add fringe
- finish a loomed piece by weaving warp threads into the piece

 

At the end of this class, the typical student should be able to achieve/accomplish/learn the following:

- warp a loom for the removal and replacement of selected threads
- determine appropriate length of necklace and adding beads for uniform length
- complete loomed pattern using off-loom weaving technique
- design fringe to complement woven piece
