GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: To introduce the student to the choices needed to be made when deciding how to string beads and select and attach a clasp.
DESCRIPTION of MAJOR PROJECTS/TASKS:

This is a practice class.   You won't be doing any particular project.

- string beads and attach clasp using thread, needle and wax
- string beads and attach clasp using flex wire and crimp beads
DESCRIPTION of SKILLS/TECHNIQUES/CONCEPTS TO BE LEARNED: - how to wax your thread
- how to string beads and attach clasp, maintaining tension, first using a  needle/thread technique and then using a cable wire/crimp bead technique
- how to use crimp beads
- learn how to choose an appropriate type of clasp

BS0001:  Basics of Bead Stringing and Attaching Clasps

This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of bead stringing and attaching clasps.   The student learns two techniques - use of needle/thread/wax and use of flexible cable wire with crimp beads and crimping pliers.   The range of types of clasps, and their pros and cons, is discussed. We go over how to use all the other little pieces -- called Jewelry Findings -- such as bead tips, end caps, crimp ends, separator bars, attach rings, connectors, jump rings, eyeglass holder ends, and the like.

This course is an introductory core courses.

At the beginning of this class, the typical student should be able to do/know the following: The student should have a general understanding about types of beads and types of jewelry findings.
At the end of this class, the typical student should be able to achieve/accomplish/learn the following: Choose an appropriate clasp, and bead stringing method.

6-8" of size 4mm beads (any style or color)
C-Lon (preferred) or Nymo D thread, black, on bobbin
2- Size 10 beading needles
Bees wax
1 clasp, any style, preferably one in sterling silver, gold-filled, or vermeil.   (be sure you have both the clasp part and the catch or ring part)
