Margie Deeb Beside the soft lapping water of Lake Alatoona, kissed by a
thick, sweet fragrance of mimosa blossoms, glass beads no
larger than a grain of sand began to move in patterns and
rhythms, weaving light and color into form, taking on a life
of their own: Minoa Beadworks was born. The work was
fascinating, mathematical, tactile, sensuous, and it used her
skills as artist and musician. Margie knew she had found an
art form that spoke to her. Having earned a BFA in Visual Communications from the
University of Kansas in 1981, Margie moved to Atlanta.
Following three years as a professional graphic designer and
commercial illustrator, Margie began her independent career,
seeking greater freedom. Her varied clients provide the
opportunity to work in oil, acrylic, pastels, airbrush,
watercolor, pen and ink, graphite, markers, colored pencils,
and the computer. Margie creates art that dances, adorns, and becomes part of
the person who wears it. Knowing that art is spiritual, she
focuses on exploring new techniques and discovering new
mediums to visually express ideas, beliefs, and feelings. Her
studio is named to honor the Minoans, an ancient culture which
flourished on the island. The Minoan society was governed by
the principles of collaboration and artistic freedom. Margie
seeks to collaborate with her own Muses summoned by her deeply
held spiritual beliefs through meditations and dreams, those
revealed in her joy as a musician, and those that speak in the
unique voices of texture, color and light. Margie's loom instruction & pattern book, "Out On A Loom" has inspired many
beaders to branch out and explore color and form in new ways.
Her work has appeared in Don Piercešs book "Beading On A Loom"
(1999, Interweave Press), "The Bead Bugle" webzine, and in "Beadwork"
magazine. She teaches her popular, 2-day intensive color
course "A Passion for
Color" through-out the country. Her work sells as
private commissions and through galleries, boutiques, and
shows. Using light, color, and movement, she creates art to
inspire those who see, wear, or own it. ________________________________ |
